Tonight would also Mussels night as I was at the fish shop getting my squid for the other recipes and thought it a good idea. My beloved husband was extremely happy and this dish has only 4 ingredients and is so satisfyingly easy therefore I was happy too – an unusual occurrence at 5.30pm with two knackered toddlers.

The dryness of the cider with the slimy ocean flavoured chewiness of the mussels was very satisfying as well as reassurinlgy low in fat and calories on its own. I unfortunately made fresh ciabatta to dunk in the salty juices so the diet worthiness of this dish was lost.

Our kids would not try them but liked using the mussel shells to chat (and then argue) with each other. They were interested in the novelty of the dish though we nealry scored a success in them trying it – maybe next time Ill persuade them.

9 out of 10 (extra points given for ease!)
